Andreas Bauernfeind from the TU Vienna Spaceteam has designed and constructed a similar device taking the fundamental concept of the device and improved certain aspects of it by simplifying the complexity and reducing the construction workload. So far the team have flown this device twice (that I’m aware of) with a successful recovery both times.

  The TU Vienna Spaceteam device is currently designed to be filled directly from the mini CO2 cylinder.
